The Devil I Know

Now, don’t let the word ‘Devil’ in this title dissuade you, for in no way, shape or form is it about the ‘Devil’.

This novel simply epitomises the scenario, ‘Better the devil you know, than the devil you don’t’, so ladies, the next time you think of leaving your cheating men for another, be sure to ‘know’ that the grass is really ‘greener’ on the other side.

Remember, the man you are leaving is ‘your’ devil. You know him well… but how much do you know the new devil that will at first pose as an angel in disguise?

The Devil I Know was released in December 2003 and is causing a storm even now. Like her debut novel Mr Soon Come, it is set in Birmingham, England, (keeping the city on the literary map). The long-awaited novel has been described as ‘Drama at its best’.

The fervent novel tells the story of Elijah Zephaniah Benjamin, (aka Lijah) an ex-rastaman whose locks are now no more than an old habit dying hard, the story takes you on an historical but topsy-turvy journey of Lijah’s troubled life – leading from the sixties, all the way into 2003.

This eye-opening page-turner is certainly set to raise eyebrows, beckon sighs and even jerk a few tears! So cleverly written and poignancy induced, it will have readers emotionally shaken and stirred. With every single character of significant importance – from the youngest to the oldest, The Devil I Know is truly a phenomenal read.
